| REEL TOP 40 RADIO REPOSITORY |
I fondly remember this great radio station, growing up in the Metro Toronto area. While the format is clearly pre Drake-Chenault, the jingles are upbeat and the instant replays and Chum twin spins were state of the art, in Canada, at the time. Brian Skinner "The Prez" was a legend to Toronto area teenagers of the day. The live updates of scores in NHL hockey games heard during this clip is soooo Canadian eh? Where is Brian Skinner today? Thanks for the memories, Uncle Ricky.
At last word, Brian Skinner was teaching in the Seattle area. His son, Kori Skinner, did a show on CHUM in the '90s.
I can't believe that more of my generation ( who grew up in "HOGTOWN" in the 60's ) have not weighed in with their comments on this excellent piece of radio history from our era. Come on Canada, give Uncle Ricky a reason to keep posting more of this good stuff on this great web site! Let's hear from you. Show some Canadian pride, that's all we got right now with our sinking CDN $ and all. Come on Toronto. Brian
I've never listened to CHUM until listening to this air check. When will more CHUM air checks be available here? I've lived in Dallas all of my life (I'm 52) and I grew up listening to KLIF and K-BOX. There are definately elements of KLIF here. Maybe I should say KLIF has elements of CHUM. Obviously, they both were great! It's too bad that today's radio doesn't sound like yesterday's CHUM! Oldies stations that don't sound like CHUM don't get it! Those Pams Jingles are so great!!!
Currently, there are six CHUM airchecks available at REELRADIO. If memory serves, Dan Haber contributed a few more CHUM 'checks, so they'll be online eventually. Please keep in mind that it has taken 5 years and 10 months to put over 900 exhibits online here at REELRADIO. It just takes time. (You are expected to visit regularly for years to come...)
