20 YEARS ONLINE

Thanks to Abe Lemons for his quote which headlines this page. It's true, REELRADIO has been online for 20 years and a couple of days. The first two REELRADIO exhibits were posted on February 12, 1996. Since then, I tried to maintain a weekly regimen of new exhibits on Sunday morning, almost every Sunday, with a handful of exceptions for personal and technical reasons. It's been an enlightening and sometimes challenging journey, beginning with a free ride on a professional UNIX server. When that expired, we moved from our first custom-built server to more of those and finally, our currently leased piece of "the cloud". My thanks to everyone who helped bring us to Year 21.

And how can I possibly write about the people I've met or worked with along the way? They may have had little to do with technical issues, but it was their content and contributions that made REELRADIO so special. Those who have followed the site recognize the significant contributions of everyone who has helped build the largest Top 40 Radio Repository on the planet.

I had written previously that I wanted to "retire". There would be no future updates to REELRADIO, at least until I could move and re-locate all the property that goes along with maintaining the Repository. But that announcement was a bit premature.

In fact, I'm months away from even being able to offer the house for sale. It requires significant repairs if I want to sell it for market value. The foundation is failing, so the house needs more than a fresh coat of paint. I won't have the money for the repairs until May. As much I want to find a new place to retire, it would appear my retirement must start here, and it will be a "semi-retirement" at that.

I've been here for 20 years, updating the site every Sunday, and I do want some time off! The work on the conversion of exhibits to a new format will continue. I won't create new exhibits every week. But the ongoing business of running a business continues, and I don't know how I will ever "retire" from that. I certainly can't retire from the responsibility of Copyright Agent, because that's how we do what we do, willing to respond immediately to any claims of copyright infringement. Mostly, I hope to stay current on our bills and pay off our debt, and your renewals now are important for that reason.

Once-A-Month, Second Sunday

And now, the good news. Renewals have been surprisingly good. Because of your support, I'm willing to meet a once-a-month deadline. So, on the Second Sunday of the month, for the foreseeable future, there will be an update. It may be several exhibits, or just one or two, but they will be here and HITBOUND on the Second Sunday of March, The Second Sunday of April, The Second Sunday of May, etc., as long as I have good new content to post and I still have access to the archives. Thank you.
