. . . She wants to feel the heat with somebody . . .

[Description by Uncle Ricky]

WPLJ/Power 95 sounds pretty good in 1987, after years of battling that other FM. It seems they've gotten serious. Long-time New York radio vet Pat St. John speaks for less than 60 seconds in this entire 44-minute aircheck, it IS Most Music Power 95. The stop sets (two) seem to be limited to 3 units, capped with a promo launching back to music.

It's nice to hear some predictable, rational formatics. Unfortunately, there were a couple of iPod segues, and there is no excuse for this when you have professional voice talent sitting there in front of a microphone. Still, I liked the jingles and the overall presentation. Technically, the station was set to "MAX" volume (lots of limiting) and there was very good stereo phase throughout, if not much separation. Overall, a great sample of 1987 CHR, a lot of which I remember fondly — I was only 30-something then.
